About the team:

The Functional Ingredients team provides a wide variety of analytical services to RSSL’s clients in both the food and pharmaceutical industry, relying heavily on chromatographic techniques to solve scientific problems and provide an outstanding service.

Position summary:

The role at Senior Scientist I is to provide technical direction and managerial responsibilities within the Functional ingredients laboratory. Undertaking project management to ensure that projects are performed and supervised effectively and accurately. This role focuses on routine and investigative analyses of products and method development and validations using techniques such as HPLC, IC, LC-MS and UV. It will also provide leadership within the laboratory, managing and training junior members of the team as required. It will also involve contact with RSSL clients where appropriate.

Scientifically, it will focus primarily on method development and validations of complex food and pharmaceutical matrices using HPLC and LCMS. And will also involve investigative and routine analysis of products using chromatography techniques. Depending on the project, they will be worked to either Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) or UKAS ISO17025 standards.

The role is ideally suited to someone with well established liquid chromatography experience and experience in analytical project management.

Primary Accountabilities:

• Provide high quality customer service at all times by ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload, integrity of analytical data generated and timely/accurate provision of results.
• Provide Technical direction within own area of expertise within the team.
• Perform a range of analysis using HPLC, IC, LC-MS and UV independently.
• Perform complex method development and design validation protocols.
• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment.
• Provide Technical direction within own area of expertise within the team.
• Perform data checking and provide interpretation of results for routine testing.
• Generate certificate analysis or external interpretive reports.
• Expert user of specific software and proficient in the use of generic and specific software packages require for the role: Laboratory’s LIMS system, Q-Pulse, Open

Lab and Chromeleon

• Provide training and supervise junior staff in routine activities and methods and interpretation.
• Take responsibility for elements of specific projects and/or specific areas of general laboratory/sample administration and assign housekeeping tasks as required.
• Will be expected to work in different laboratories if the demand is required.

What you will bring

• Sufficient in-industry laboratory experience with Liquid-Chromatography Mass-Spectroscopy, High Performance Liquid Chromatography and related techniques to work independently on complex projects
• Regulatory experience, ideally in GMP or UKAS
• Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build your network and technical credibility with external clients and internal teams
• Problem solving and planning resources to maintain a consistent workflow to deliver projects
• Organizational skills, including time management and priority setting
