You lead a team that works on complex analytical programs alongside cross-functional stakeholders, interpreting findings and identifying actionable next steps. As a team leader who frequently interacts with senior stakeholders, you are responsible for reviewing, authorizing, communicating and influencing impactful technical/scientific results.

How you will contribute

You will work with cross-functional partners to ensure that teams successfully deliver on their projects. This will involve ensuring that the right work is done, technical accuracy is maintained, best practices are used, and resources are allocated correctly to balance workloads. To maintain technical accuracy among team members, you will ensure the integrity of the data produced and that work is carried out safely and in compliance with relevant industry laboratory standards. This role will require you to demonstrate high levels of technical expertise in your own and your team’s work by managing internal and external resources, continuously identifying opportunities for improvement, and being aware of latest relevant best practices. Influencing skills will be vital in this role because you will use yours to educate business stakeholders on technical risks, ensuring clear communication and understanding to allow for cross-functional decision making. As a people leader, you will recruit, retain and manage talent for a team of direct and indirect reports, advocate for your teams’ areas of technical expertise, and mentor and coach them to grow their capability and to support their career development.

The RSSL Group leader role will report to the Investigative section manager and will take responsibility for the management of the Microscopy lab. This encompasses the management of contractual operations, maintenance and progression of the laboratory’s quality systems, maintenance of the health and safety programme and laboratory budgetary responsibilities.

You will manage a team of scientific staff and be accountable for ensuring that work is processed in a timely fashion whilst adhering to the prerequisite quality standards expected by RSSL clients and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated the necessary technical knowledge and business acumen to implement the strategic direction for business growth. Additionally, the individual will have strong people management skills to influence, manage and motivate a diverse group of scientists comprising different disciplines and capabilities.

The successful candidate will have a Science based Degree or PhD with significant experience in a food or pharmaceutical laboratory environment and proven managerial experience. In addition you will be familiar with UKAS or GMP quality protocols.
