Artios Pharma is currently recruiting a Scientist (Telomere Biology) to join our world class research team in a dynamic, expanding biotech company based south of Cambridge, UK. Artios is focused on identifying and developing cancer treatments by exploiting novel targets within the DNA damage response (DDR), a scientific area of high expectation following the success of PARP inhibitors in the clinic.

Your primary responsibilities will be to support the DDR Biology team in contributing biological data to Artios’ early-stage drug discovery projects focused on telomere biology. You will achieve this by applying your technical expertise in cell and molecular biology to develop and run mechanistic cell biological studies to understand telomere maintenance mechanisms and their potential for exploitation as novel anti-cancer strategies. You will also work in multi-disciplinary collaborations involving a high level of teamwork.

• Apply expertise in cell and molecular biology to run mechanistic cell biological studies to validate Artios’ novel targets
• Develop and run functional assays to understand and profile telomere maintenance mechanisms in cancer cells
• Contribute biological data to Artios’ ongoing drug discovery projects

Essential skills and abilities:

• Excellent skills in a broad range of cell and molecular biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture, viability assays (colony formation and proliferation), Western blotting, RNA interference and fluorescence microscopy-based methods such as immunofluorescence and / or FISH
• Understanding of telomere biology, DNA damage response biology, DNA repair pathways and/or cancer biology
• Minimum of three years’ experience working in a research environment
• High level of team working skills required
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in an organised and methodical fashion
• Ability to troubleshoot experiments independently
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Keeping accurate laboratory records
• High level of IT literacy

Desirable skills:

• Expertise in flow cytometry
• Experience with stable cell line generation
• Experience of small molecule drug discovery
• Experience working in an industrial setting

Qualifications required:

• Ph.D. in a life science subject or equivalent experience within an industrial setting
