Scientist, Transgenic Mouse Models for Biologic Discovery – Cambridge, UK

Alloy GEO group (Genetically Engineered Organisms) is looking for a talented Scientist to join our team in Cambridge, United Kingdom. The position will report directly to the Head of GEO and work as a part of the team developing novel mouse models for the discovery of biologics including bispecific antibodies, single domain antibodies, and transgenic T cell receptors. The successful candidate should have proven experience with the latest transgenic animal engineering techniques, expertise in mouse ES cell generation and manipulations, excellent tissue culture work habits and, ideally, has been involved in the generation of transgenic mouse models. The candidate will be using the very latest technologies and equipment to develop the next generation of Alloy animal models with the goal of helping others to make better medicines.

Principal Responsibilities

• Mouse ES cells manipulations, vector design for genomic targeting, and generation of transgenic mouse models

• ES cells propagation, characterization, transfection, sub-cloning, and cryo-preservation

• Genetic and functional characterization of transgenic mice

• Managing multiple projects in a well-defined timeframe

• Being generous when others are needy, greedy or fearful

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor, Master or PhD Degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or equivalent discipline (title will be aligned with experience)

• Previous experience working with mouse ES cells is required but additional training will be provided

• Experience with primary cell culture including passaging, various culture conditions, ranges of media compositions and cryopreservation

• Hands-on experience with the design, generation, and characterization of transgenic mice

• Ability to support the molecular biology team with basic lab-based tasks (PCR screenings, genotyping)

• Experience with mice colony management is a plus

• Ability to work both independently and within a team

• Attention to details, rigorous scientific thinking and appropriate documentation, clear communication

• Proactive attitude, eager to learn and help your team to succeed

• An independent sense of urgency, persistence, and integrity
