Your role in our team:

We are looking for a Scientist/Senior Scientist with experience molecular biology, mammalian tissue culture and cellular engineering to join our Technology Development (Functional Genomics) team. The role is focussed on leading programmes of research that will enhance existing technology or create and test novel technologies as it pertains to the Functional Genomics department and company wide goals.

Reporting to a senior member of the Technology Development team the appointed candidate will work with a team of scientists (Cell Engineering, Discovery Screening, Synthetic Biology, NGS Screening) that forms a focal point within the wider R&D department.

Your key responsibilities will include:

Design, test and incorporate novel and/or customised solutions using the latest molecular and cellular technologies. These projects will be led with a high level of independence once the goals and experimental strategies are set.
Manage interactions with external collaborators to assess new technologies, share ideas and tackle experimental challenges. You will show initiative in communicating and managing such projects
Work collaboratively and proactively with multiple science teams within the company, in particular the Synthetic Biology, Discovery Screening and Cell Engineering teams, as well as our sister company bit.bio Discovery
Influence and impact across the wider scientific, commercial and manufacturing communities within bit.bio as pertains to genetic engineering, developing technology and cell line development. Will sit on several key committees
Oversee development and training activities; coach individuals to perform their roles effectively. If required, help manage the performance of individuals who are failing to meet agreed standards

You…

Have a PhD in a relevant area of Biological Sciences or a BSc/MSc and equivalent experience within the biotech industry, with a passion for problem solving and a mindset geared towards innovation
Are able to design complex experiments, work independently and proactively
Can efficiently manage and prioritise your workload
Have some experience of coaching and/or training
Have the ability to communicate effectively with teammates and collaborators, occasionally presenting work to large groups

With essential experience in...

Editing Eukaryotic cells. Having strong practical and theoretical experience, including experiment QC and project delivery
Molecular biology techniques. Having strong practical and theoretical experience
Cellular assays and phenotyping (FACS, IC, clonogenicity, cytotoxicity and viability testing). Having some experience and knowledge
Molecular assays and biology (e.g. cloning, qRT-PCR, scRNA-seq, ddPCR, NGS, gene synthesis). Being well rounded, with some practical experience

and possibly...

Experience in the use and incorporation of automated workflows
Strong practical and theoretical background in hESC and hIPSC culture
Good knowledge and experience of performing modern genomic screening
Experience and understanding of the introduction of novel workflows and processes
