Artios Pharma is recruiting for a Senior Laboratory Technician/Laboratory Manager as maternity cover for a fixed 12-month period. This is an excellent opportunity to join a world class research team in a dynamic, small Biotech company based south of Cambridge, UK. Artios is focused on identifying and developing cancer treatments by exploiting novel targets within the DNA damage response (DDR), a scientific area of high expectation following the success of PARP inhibitors in the clinic. The company is actively working on an exciting portfolio of unique DNA repair projects.

We have 2 clinical studies with our small molecules, ATR and Polθ inhibitors, in clinical development.

Outline of the role
You will join a growing research team within this innovative and expanding company. Your primary responsibilities will be:
• Management and ordering of laboratory consumables.
• Cleaning and general maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Arranging service contracts, calibrations and timely repairs of laboratory equipment.
• Safe and proper waste disposal, including liquid and dry waste, category II dry waste and radioactive waste.
• Co-ordination of incoming and outgoing shipments of chemical and biological reagents
• Liaising with company representatives to obtain quotes for consumables and small & large-scale equipment.
• Reviewing and maintaining databases including equipment, chemicals and consumable inventories.
• Assisting with health and safety in the laboratory, including reviewing H&S documentation and maintaining high standards of H&S.
• Assist with compound management, including the preparation of DMSO stocks and maintenance of databases.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential
• BSc in molecular biology/cell biology/biochemistry or equivalent experience.
• Experience in performing and reviewing risk assessments including COSHH.
• Prior experience working in a biochemistry or cell biology research laboratory as a laboratory technician or laboratory manager.
• Experience in ordering and stock control.
• Experience in coordinating incoming and outgoing shipments.
• Experience in producing buffers and microbiological media, including agars, broths and buffers.

Desirable
• Experience working in a tissue culture laboratory
• Experience in compound management
• Experience of leading laboratory health and safety inspections.
• Experience of managing junior staff.
• First Aid at Work Certificate.
