Your role in our team:

We are seeking a Senior Scientist with experience in managing multiple workflows to join our Product and Technology Development team in the Department of Functional Genomics. The role is focussed on coordinating work from complementary functions within the team, to generate cell lines for commercial and clinical applications, as well as enhance existing or create/test novel technology. Reporting to the group leader of the Product and Technology Development team, the appointed candidate will work with project lead scientists who form a focal point within the wider R&D department.

The Functional Genomics Department plays a pivotal role in bit.bio’s mission to develop cell types for research and clinical use. The Department consists of 5 teams and 30 core scientists that work closely together and lean on each team’s expertise to further develop our core platforms and clinical assets. Led by experts in their fields, these include the following teams: Product and Technology Development, Discovery Screening, Next Generation Sequencing, Automation and Synthetic Biology

Your key responsibilities will include:

Work collaboratively and proactively with small groups of scientists that lead complementary functions for cell engineering and technology development. You help coordinate the work between these teams.
Manage diverse projects, from bespoke innovation projects to high-priority cell engineering deliverables.
Always have an innovative mindset, to design, test and incorporate novel and/or customised solutions with the latest molecular and cellular technologies.
Manage interactions with multiple science teams within the company and external collaborators, to outsource projects, test new technologies, share ideas and tackle experimental challenges. You will show initiative in communicating and managing such projects.
Influence and impact across the wider scientific, commercial and manufacturing communities in bit.bio, as pertains to genetic engineering, developing technology and cell line development. Will sit on several key committees.
Oversee development and training activities; coach individuals to perform their roles effectively. If required, help manage the performance of individuals who are failing to meet agreed standards.

Have a PhD in a relevant area of Biological Sciences or an equivalent experience in the biotech industry, with a passion for problem solving and a mindset geared towards innovation
Have experience of managing many projects in parallel
Design complex experiments, work independently and proactively
Can efficiently manage and prioritise your workload
Have some experience of coaching and/or training
Have the ability to communicate effectively with teammates and collaborators, occasionally presenting work to large groups

With essential experience in...

Editing eukaryotic cells. Having a strong and demonstrable practical and theoretical experience, including experiment QC and project delivery
Molecular biology techniques. Having practical and theoretical experience
Cellular assays and phenotyping (flow cytometry, IHC, clonogenicity, cytotoxicity and viability testing).
Having some experience and knowledge of Molecular assays and biology (e.g. cloning, qRT-PCR, scRNA-seq, ddPCR, NGS, gene synthesis). Being well-rounded, with some practical experience

Experience in the use and incorporation of automated workflows
Strong practical and theoretical background in hESC and hIPSC culture (>2 years)
Good knowledge and experience of performing modern genomic screening
Experience and understanding on the introducing of novel workflows and processes
