Senior Scientist II

Maxion Therapeutics is a newly formed biotechnology company focused on developing antibody-like therapeutics to address unmet medical needs. The company uses their innovative KnotBody technology® in combination with in vitro display technologies to generate therapeutic candidates against ion channels and GPCRs. Maxion cultivates a dynamic and innovative environment for its employees driven by its scientific founders who are pioneers in the field of antibody engineering.

Maxion is seeking a talented and highly motivated scientist to join our founding team based in Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge. The successful candidate will participate in active drug discovery and technology development programmes contributing their expertise to help the company achieve its challenging goals. This is currently a full-time lab-based role with scope for line management and mentoring responsibilities as the team expands. The salary is competitive and includes an exciting opportunity to participate in the company share option scheme.

Candidate Profile

The role requires a PhD graduate with 3-5 years post-doctoral experience (or equivalent) in either an industrial or academic lab. Essential skills include:

• Experience in antibody or protein drug discovery
• Experience in developing biochemical and cell-based assays for antibody screening
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative working relationships
• Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure

Beyond this core experience one or more of the following skills would be advantageous:

• Display technology techniques (e.g., phage, yeast, ribosome display)
• Experience in ion channel and GPCR drug discovery
• Familiarity with structural biology tools
• High level of molecular biology skills
• Antibody or target sequence analysis
• Flow cytometry

Key Responsibilities:

• To plan and carry out lab work to the highest quality standards
• To analyse, interpret and effectively communicate data verbally and in written form to team members and at scientific conferences
• To use appropriate scientific literature to independently design & execute innovative experiments and processes
• To solve problems on a day-to-day basis and oversee junior colleagues as required
• To maintain accurate records of all work by completing laboratory notebooks on time, following Company procedures
