Senior Scientist- Neuroscience; Cell Biology & Target Validation

About Cerevance:
Cerevance is a neuroscience focused drug discovery company dedicated to finding innovative new medicines for debilitating CNS disorders. The company’s powerful NETSseq platform profiles cell-type specific gene expression from human brain tissue in health and disease with the aim of identifying novel targets for drug discovery. We have a pipeline of novel discovery- and clinical-stage compounds and a proven team of drug discovery scientists that we are looking to expand with an experience neuro cell biologist.
Cerevance is located in Cambridge, UK and Boston, MA, USA. The position will be based in Cambridge, UK laboratories.

Position: Senior Scientist- Neuroscience; Cell Biology & Target Validation

We are seeking a highly motivated neuroscience-based cell biologist with a PhD (or equivalent) and expertise in understanding neuronal function and dysfunction in disease.
The ideal candidate will be a laboratory-based scientist with a strong background in neuroscience, an excellent understanding of cell type specific transcriptomics and interpreting bioinformatic analyses. Hands on cell biology expertise is required with a good working knowledge of modern primary, recombinant and iPSC derived cellular systems as they pertain to the brain. Experience in genetic manipulation techniques and cellular imaging would be an advantage.

Responsibilities will include:
• the analysis of cell type specific transcriptomic data sets emerging from NETSseq, in particular of purified neuronal subtypes. A familiarity with identifying neuronal subtypes and their expression characteristics is desired, together with bioinformatic and neuroanatomical characterization to define neuronal subpopulations from across the human brain.
• the identification of potential drug targets from transcriptomic and bioinformatic analysis based on a strong understanding of the biochemical basis of neurological diseases. Subsequent cellular and pharmacological validation of the biochemical hypothesis underlying the target selection and therapeutic potential.
This role will contribute across the whole of the Cerevance drug discovery pipeline and provides the opportunity to work within a vibrant and up-and-coming neuroscience drug discovery environment. We expect all candidates to be highly motivated, flexible, and well-organized scientists with the ability to multi-task and work within a highly multidisciplinary and dynamic environment. Good interpersonal skills and a strong team ethic are essential. Experience of working within a pharma or biotech drug discovery environment would be an advantage.

Cerevance offers a competitive salary and benefits package.
