Senior/Principal Scientist, Lead Discovery

STORM Therapeutics is a drug-discovery biotech based at Babraham Research Campus, south of Cambridge, UK. We are developing novel first-in-class small molecule drugs targeting RNA modifying enzymes as cancer therapeutics, progressing our first clinical candidate STC-15 to human trials this year.

At STORM Therapeutics, we work hand in hand with our external partners to integrate internal and external drug discovery activities, combining our expertise in target validation, novel assay development and unique RNA Analytics with screening, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology capabilities at established integrated drug discovery CROs such as Evotec and Sygnature.

We are now looking to recruit a talented, experienced, and enthusiastic molecular pharmacologist with a strong background in small molecule Lead Discovery. This is an excellent opportunity to join a world class research team in a dynamic small Biotech company located in one of the leading UK biotech hubs.

The role
In this role you will draw on your strong prior experience of developing and running biological in vitro assays to lead and implement molecular assay strategies for screening and optimisation of RNA modifying enzyme inhibitors. In addition, you will have primary responsibility for maintaining our Dotmatics database, ensuring that project data are captured in a consistent, robust and accessible manner. You will work with CROs and internal stakeholders to analyse results and guide project teams on data interpretation.

Qualifications and Experience
• PhD or equivalent experience in a biological discipline with extensive industrial experience in small molecule drug discovery
• Extensive experience in biochemical and biophysical assays and their application to inform hit identification and lead optimisation.
• Experience with recombinant cell-based assay systems would be advantageous.
• Significant experience with assay/screening data management software and data analysis applications such as Vortex and Spotfire. Experience in using the Dotmatics platform would be desirable.
• A proven track record of experimental design and analysis in collaboration with in-house scientists and external collaborators to inform and progress programmes efficiently

Key Skills and Abilities
• In-depth understanding of in vitro pharmacology
• Expertise in high-throughput screening of protein targets
• Ability to identify key questions and design, commission and lead CRO studies to answer them
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work across disciplines in a matrixed team. Track record of successful collaboration with medicinal chemists to guide small molecule design
• Ability to assimilate and analyse complex data sets
• Meticulous attention to detail in maintenance of internal data repositories.

This is a permanent role offering a competitive Salary & Benefits package.
