The Quadram Institute is a new £multi-million state-of-the-art food and health research and endoscopy centre. It will be at the forefront of a new interface between food science, gut biology and health, developing solutions to worldwide challenges in food-related disease and human health.

The role:


The Head of External Relations and Engagement will spearhead the development and delivery of the Quadram Institute’s branding, external communications and engagement strategy. They will manage the Communications team to develop and deliver highly effective strategies, aligned to organisational aims and objectives.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated DevOps engineer to work at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) located at the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.


You will be working in the Software Development and Operations team led by Sarah Butcher, within the Technical Services Cluster (TSC). The team develops, adapts, maintains and operates open source software to deliver services for our internal and external users.

We are looking for a Systems Administrator who will support and maintain our large compute cluster estate. The successful candidate will join the small and dedicated Compute sub-team within the Systems Infrastructure team that is part of the wider Technical Services Cluster (TSC).

The project

The BioSamples database (http://www.ebi.ac.uk/biosamples) at EMBL-EBI is a resource that integrates biological samples from a wide variety of sources to provide a single location to apply standards and ontologies to sample data. It has grown from 14,000 samples in 2010 to over 6 million samples in 2019.
