Cambridge, UK, and Boston, MA, USA, 22 September 2026: Nuclera, the biotechnology company enabling access to innovative protein technologies, today announced the appointment of Carl Raimond as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Dr Michael Chen, Nuclera’s co-founder and former CEO, transitions to the role of Chief Scientific and Business Officer, continuing to provide scientific leadership while supporting market development and strategic partnerships.
The leadership transition marks the next phase in Nuclera’s evolution as the Company builds on more than a decade of expertise in cell-free protein synthesis, digital microfluidics and protein production. The combination of Carl’s experience scaling life-science businesses with Michael’s scientific leadership and deep understanding of Nuclera’s technology and markets will support the Company as it expands adoption of its platform across priority life-science workflows.
Nuclera is applying its cell-free protein synthesis and digital microfluidics capabilities to accelerate the speed of protein science, with current focus areas including full-length IgG antibody screening, challenging membrane protein synthesis, and soluble protein expression. In May 2026, the Company launched antibody service capabilities to support early experimental triage for antibody discovery programs, complementing its eProtein Discovery™ system for in-house protein expression and screening.
The Company is also extending its antibody strategy beyond centralized service delivery. Nuclera is advancing early partner work toward customer-site antibody screening workflows, designed to bring cell-free expression and binding triage closer to AI-enabled discovery teams and reduce the delay between computational design and experimental evidence.
Carl joins Nuclera from Thermo Fisher Scientific, where he served as President of Proteomic Sciences following its acquisition of Olink Proteomics. He previously served as President of Olink Proteomics, helping lead the company through its $3.1 billion acquisition by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2023. An experienced life-sciences executive, Carl has also held senior leadership roles at PerkinElmer, Agilent Technologies and Affymetrix.
As Chief Scientific and Business Officer, Michael will focus on scientific strategy, market development and strategic partnerships, working closely with Carl as the Company enters its next phase of growth whilst maintaining continuity in Nuclera’s scientific direction.
