One Nucleus is always conscious that our member companies are constantly mindful of the need to be international given the nature of the life sciences sector, innovation and the unmet medical needs they seek to address.

Supporting our members in their international endeavours takes many forms that are more obvious, such as those described below. Complementing these more direct interventions however is something we do not often discuss or highlight which is the efforts to enable our members to involve their network neighbours in their cause, recruiting them as their ambassadors when they are onward connecting.

Being Direct:
Some of the more obvious and direct activities undertaken have included:

Hosting a seminar and networking lunch for a company delegation from Japan in collaboration with MedCity in January. Presentations from Cogano, EditForce, iXgene, Molmir and NBHL providing opportunities to engage collaboratively across fields such as RNA therapeutics, gene editing and protein disaggregation.  For more information on what happened next, you could contact Nicki Bromwich, Head of Life Science Programmes at MedCity.

This was followed by another international delegation hosted just last month when a group of Australian executives joined a One Nucleus Afternoon Tea to discuss how the much talked about ‘Australian Advantage’ package of incentives. such as high R&D Tax Credits and streamlined routes to phase 1 studies, could benefit One Nucleus members seeking to transition their programme into clinic.  You can check out the slides from the session at here where 360Biolabs, Scientia Clinical Research, Beyond Drug Development and RDI Partners shared their insights. They even picked up a friendly lab removal company during the session for the photo!

A spring highlight each year is EBD Group’s BIO-Europe Spring, held this year in Milan. The One Nucleus team of Alicia Gailliez and Monalisa Breazu, who were busy partnering and exhibiting to promote our members, as well as providing a home-base for our members within the conference between their own 1-2-1 meetings. It was pleasing to see quotes such as this as feedback on the presence;

"The One Nucleus onsite team did a fabulous job at BIO-Europe! Domainex utilised the One Nucleus stand as a meeting point to speak to individuals outside of the partnering platform, as well as having Domainex brochures and branding available for people visiting the booths. In addition, their support at the event was great, as they were accommodating and helpful, and were there when my energy levels were low, needed a friendly face to talk to and a re-energise before going to the next partnering meeting!"
Ray Boffey, Chief Commercial Officer, Domainex.

Being Indirect:
As mentioned at the start of the article, there are less obvious indirect activities which One Nucleus facilitates that can be impactful when harnessed. In fact, they are activities we facilitate, and yet we are not always the primary delivery vehicle. I refer here to the often overlooked return on ensuring you build your brand value within your own ecosystem. It is normal to feel that every time you pitch your innovation and business, it needs to be to potential investors, partners or customers. Absolutely, there is a need to do that. But who is it your target audience trusts? Human nature would suggest they trust their close peers and friends the most, so whilst the pitch is important, your reputation and visibility among that potential investor/partner/customers’* (* delete as appropriate) trusted network can be equally valuable.

This topic came up in our March BioWednesday at ARC West London’s Refinery facility, where the panel discussed “Where is the Best Place to Grow Your Life Science Company and Access Finance?” A lively debate covered many aspects of what constituted the best ecosystem. The short answer was it depends, as one might expect given the best location is determined by what the business needs. There was also a sense that leveraging more than one location was a potential strategy where different locations offer different advantages. The closing question for the panel was what they would like to see from a membership group such as One Nucleus. Reassuringly, their answers were consistent in encouraging One Nucleus to continue doing what we do to bring international clusters into contact with our members.

This, of course, is a driver behind programmes such as the Boston Bootcamp, which in a few short weeks will see the 2025 cohort of winners travel across the Atlantic to connect, learn and promote our network. This is a great example of how not just One Nucleus knowing what you do and who you are is beneficial for us to spread the word in a key market, but the group here also knowing your value will help them keep you front of mind when potential partners are in conversation with them.

Converting Your Peers

One Nucleus is here to help our members build their brand value and visibility among our network such that those connections indeed become your ambassadors when interfacing with their trusted connections around the globe. Using One Nucleus to amplify your voice, converting peers to informed ambassadors of each other can be very powerful. To this end, we are delighted to be holding a company pitching showcase at our next BioWednesday on 9 April at Queen Mary Innovation Centre. There are 21 companies lined up to pitch and network with delegates, each accepting the opportunity to build that local brand value. Who knows, there could be, for example, an attendee from the Professional Services sector who could be advising other clients who need just what one of the pitching companies has to offer, and hence an ambassador is created!

Upcoming Opportunities to Take Advantage of Both Approaches:
Illustrated above are great examples of how any company can leverage One Nucleus membership to gain visibility, brand value and connectivity with their target audience and the trusted peer group of those contacts.

Looking ahead, there are some exciting opportunities for companies to work with and through One Nucleus to see the benefits. These include:
