The theory behind belonging to a group is multifaceted, spanning many theoretical frameworks, but essentially it is important because members of the group will experience personal fulfilment and shared purpose. Take one of the most well-known theories, for example, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, which suggests five key human needs that people must meet to achieve well-being, including ‘love and belonging’. This theory explains how belonging to a group and working towards a common goal can drive self-actualisation, the ability to become the best version of oneself.

One Nucleus is dedicated to fostering a vibrant community spanning the life science spectrum, where individuals and organisations can connect over a shared mission, accelerating the translation of research into improved patient outcomes. Being a hearts and minds organisation as well as offering practical support, One Nucleus appeals to this shared vision and passion, helping our members feel connected, appreciated, and a sense of belonging.
The regular opportunities to gather our members to share ideas and collaboratively problem-solve shared challenges enables important, trusted relationships to be built. These engagements develop an enhanced sense of belonging as they can see the impact of their contributions within the larger picture of addressing unmet patient need wherever that exists. Successful innovation in biomedical research has always had collaboration and trust in its DNA!
Everyone is now conscious of the importance of harnessing the positive impact of diversity on innovation. Understandably, therefore, not every type of forum suits every individual. As illustrated by the One Nucleus portfolio of events, including conferences, special interest groups, innovation seminars, networking socials, and smaller roundtables, enabling everyone to feel heard, valued, and involved.
Creating a sense of belonging includes recognising members' contributions, and our digital communications ensure that members work is seen and valued. Members can contribute their thought leadership and research insights in the form of guest blogs. articles in publications and sharing their news via the One Nucleus website.
Celebrating success is an important element in appreciating collective progress, reminding us why the group is such an exciting and impactful community to belong to. The One Nucleus Annual Awards competition culminating in an exclusive black-tie dinner serves as that opportunity.
Continuing the diversity and inclusion theme, One Nucleus embraces engagement from both members and non-members. This enriches the community and creates an ecosystem where ideas can cross-pollinate and members can connect with a broader range of stakeholders. Whilst full membership benefits are only available to members, such as our Purchasing Scheme, profile raising, and member-only discounts, non-members are welcome to access our events and training courses on more of a pay-as-you-go model.
One Nucleus aims to bring the right people together to accelerate progress towards better patient treatments for all. There is nothing to say all the required people are geographically local, of course. One Nucleus connects, via similar organisations, collaborators, and members, to the global life science industry. This introduces different perspectives and business contacts and broadens the scope of shared purpose.
Members of our community are united by this vision, and supporting our members in maximising their performance remains at the heart of everything One Nucleus does. If you are not already a member of our community, then we invite you to join us to become part of this shared vision of a brighter future of healthcare for all.
