Welcome to this month's eNews
Looking Forward to a Golden Autumn
Many look forward to the autumnal colours arriving as the seasons move along from summer breaks and a recharging of batteries in the sun. It’s no different at One Nucleus, where our team is excited to welcome its network back to our upcoming opportunities to engage, alongside some new initiatives and support supplier deals to roll out that have been ripening over the summer.
The financing environment remains challenging for many, as we are all aware, so one hopes the golden colours of autumn will be symbolic of a change in fortune for the sector and those impacted. Within the articles linked below you’ll find updates from the team on what’s been cooking here to help support our network whilst collectively seeking out the green shoots of recovery.
In Search of Capital
Engaging the right people at the right time. The quest for investment, collaborations and customers has rarely been tougher for such an extended period. Whilst there are some headline-grabbing deals, the level of investment, company creation and consequent outsourcing to the supply chain have caused many life science businesses to adapt. Re-focussing spend, slimming research teams, downsizing labs and closing operations have not been uncommon occurrences.
As set out below, One Nucleus has invested in more tools to support our members’ corporate and business development activity. This is complemented by our building on collaborations with groups such as EBD Group, Life Science Nation, BioCentury and LSI to open up more opportunities for pitching, 1-2-1 meetings and contact building. Alicia Gailliez succinctly rounds up some key opportunities available at events such as Grand Rounds Europe, BIO Europe and the One Nucleus calendar.
Supportive Neighbours
When things are really tough, perhaps one of the challenges is answering the question ‘Who are you going to call?’. You may want to check out Monalisa Breazu’s update on how we are enabling everyone to be a supportive neighbour to those finding themselves between jobs as a result of the changes above. Most of us as humans default to calling our friends as the go-to comfort zone. In a complex arena such as life sciences, where trust is paramount to building long-term value together, heading to known peers and connections is very understandable. But perhaps too, there is great merit in reaching out to trusted peers you are yet to meet.
Advice Can Be Invaluable
The article from Philippa Clark, a recent addition to the One Nucleus team with a particular focus on London, reminds us all of the need to consider networking in the longer rather than shorter term when assessing where to invest time. One Nucleus is fortunate to be a custodian of a fantastic and trusted network of expertise and connectivity developed over decades, and for the first time this year, Genesis will provide the opportunity for 50 companies to pitch to our ecosystem. The new company showcase stream at Genesis is deliberately created and positioned to reflect what many feel to be the very true adage, ‘Ask for money, get advice. Ask for advice, get money twice’.

Post-Summer Reset: Recharged for the Season Ahead
The summer season offers a valuable moment to pause and break from routine. This rest creates space for reflection to contemplate what’s working, what’s not and how to move forward with clarity and renewed purpose. Alicia Gailliez, Business Development Manager, One Nucleus, highlights the support for your transition into the season ahead with a dynamic calendar of events designed to connect, inform, and inspire.
Networking: Playing the Long Game
When it comes to networking in life sciences, the value is too often judged through the narrow lens of short-term outcomes. In her article, Philippa Clark, Director of Business Development, One Nucleus, offers an alternative perspective on measuring the value of networking.
