In-vivo Biologist, Oncology
Research Scientist 2/Senior Research Scientist depending on experience

Role Summary

New Path Molecular is a spin out from the group of Prof Steve Ley at the University of Cambridge. We are looking for an in-vivo biologist to join our drug discovery team in Cambridge working as part of our research into phosphatidylserine binding protein drug conjugates as a pan-tumour approach for the treatment of cancer. We’re looking for someone who has a passion for research and drug discovery and can offer the right person a challenging role in a dynamic small company at the forefront of innovation and the chance to work with world leading scientists through our collaborations with industry and academia.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and execution of animal studies in oncology in a variety of different models including cell line xenograft and patient derived xenografts.
• Design and execution of animal studies for pharmacokinetic and toxicological readouts for clinical candidates.
• Liaising with CROs to design, schedule and project manage studies
• Writing of study reports and documentation including health and safety documentation.
• Liaise with the CTO and other colleagues to progress projects effectively
• Maintain accurate records of experimental work
• Assist with production of reports and presentations
• Assist in the safe running of the laboratory
• Assist with the efficient running of the research laboratory including ordering, management, storage and disposal of chemicals and consumables
• Continually update knowledge and understanding in field or specialism
• Translate knowledge of advances in the subject areas into research activity

Person Profile

Education & qualifications

The candidate must have a BSc Hons in biology and a PhD (or equivalent industrial research experience).

Specialist knowledge & skills

The role holder would possess research experience, either academic or industrial with sufficient breadth/depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work as a biology lead in an established research programme including experience in:
• Cancer biology
• Oncology translational models to show efficacy, PK and mechanism of action for biological molecules in animal studies
• Cell culture
• Project management
Experience in the following would be an advantage but not essential:
• Flow cytometry
• Confocal microscopy
• Basic histopathology and IHC
• Organoid models
• Protein-drug conjugate biology
• Assay development
• In-vitro cell-based assays to profile compounds

Working pattern: Monday – Friday
Hours of work: fulltime (although candidates wishing to work part time will also be considered)
Length of appointment: permanent
Probation period: 3 months
Annual leave: 20 days plus public holidays
Pension eligibility: New Path Molecular Pension Scheme
