RNA Resources Project Leader

We are recruiting a Project Leader to spearhead the development of the RNAcentral and Rfam databases. Rfam and RNAcentral are key resources for RNA Biology that serve tens of thousands of users every year and are highly cited in the scientific literature and are currently funded by the BBSRC and Wellcome. The RNA Resources team is part of the Sequence Families group led by Alex Bateman who will oversee progress and provide scientific input.

Your role

Ensembl Genebuild Project Leader

As Project Leader, you will lead the Genebuild team in developing accurate and scalable pipelines for annotating eukaryotic genomes with transcript structures and other genic features. Your responsibilities will include:

- Pipeline and workflow development for large-scale genome annotation

- Software development and automation

- Integration of machine learning and big data approaches

- Community engagement to support large collaborative projects

- Strategic development of the next generation of Ensembl’s world-class data services

How an Act of Parliament has transformed the future of banana technology in Norwich

Earlier this month, the House of Lords passed the Precision Breeding Act which has opened up a new world of opportunity for researchers and food biotech companies at Norwich Research Park.

The Act allows for the gene editing of plants and crops in England, something Tropic, a food biotech company that has been based at Norwich Research Park for several years, is pioneering with crops grown in tropical regions of the world such as bananas and rice as well as closer to home with sugar beet.

  • Collaboration combines Nuclera’s eProtein Discovery System, which accelerates protein expression, purification and optimization, with Cytiva’s Biacore SPR system, which characterizes molecular interactions
  • Collaboration allows researchers to progress rapidly from DNA to purified and characterized protein, to facilitate insights into drug-target interactions
